The mission of the Parker Police Department's Evidence Section is to ensure the safety and preservation of property and evidence through organized, professional, and efficient handling and storage. This includes careful management of all items entrusted to our care. The Property and Evidence Section services both the Parker and Lone Tree Police Departments. Come join this incredible team as our brand new to us Evidence Warehouse Supervisor. This position will supervise one full time and one part time Property and Evidence Technician.

Duties

Examples of Essential Duties
Under general supervision, this position supervises the property and evidence function and ensures the secure, accurate, and lawful management of all department property and evidence. The position oversees staff, coordinates evidence operations and disposition, and supports departmental objectives through compliant, efficient, and customer-focused service delivery.

  • Supervises assigned personnel, including hiring, scheduling, daily work direction, performance evaluations, training coordination, and disciplinary actions.
  • Identifies training needs, coordinates and delivers training, and implements cost-effective methods to ensure accurate work product and customer service.
  • Establishes, manages, and maintains an efficient property and evidence management system in compliance with applicable laws and standards.
  • Maintains custody, control, security, and accountability of all property and evidence, including proper storage, tracking, and disposition.
  • Coordinates the intake, transfer, and release of property and evidence to courts, laboratories, other law enforcement agencies, and authorized parties.
  • Manages the physical disposition of property and evidence, including vehicle impounds and the sale or conversion of abandoned or seized property.
  • Completes and reviews documentation, identifies discrepancies, and reconciles errors in a timely manner.
  • Responds to property and evidence inquiries from department personnel, external agencies, and the public via phone and electronic communication.
  • Researches best practices and emerging methods related to property and evidence management and advises leadership on operational needs.
  • Participates as a member of the Department’s management team and supports departmental goals and operational objectives.
  • Adheres to and ensures compliance with Town and Department policies, procedures, and organizational values.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in property and evidence storage, and retention or related experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience and experience as a property and evidence technician or similar position is preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Colorado for the type of vehicle or equipment operated; safe driving record and a minimum of two (2) years of driving history.

  • Knowledge of the rules of evidence, evidence retention guidelines, and the national best practices for evidence management.
  • Knowledge of relevant town, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in the training and supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in the use of computers and other types of modern office equipment and software programs.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication and the ability to issue and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to relate to, and deal effectively with, a diverse group of people and to communicate with them through written and verbal means.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional working relationship with the Police Department, Court, Lab, and the District Attorney’s Office staff.
  • Ability to understand the principles of Community Policing and to integrate that philosophy into daily operations, duties and contact with the public, and to train others and assist them in their understanding of this philosophy and how it is integrated with the Department Mission.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to establish and develop efficient and effective systems of property and evidence storage and retention to meet the needs of the Police Department, satisfy the retention requirements of the prosecutor’s office, and meet the needs of the community.
  • Ability to assimilate information and to have the ability to arrive at sound courses of action from information gathered from many sources.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Ability to work effectively and exercise discretion in stressful or emergency situations.
