Forensic Scientist EVII - Polygraph Unit Supervisor - Statewide

Duties

Job Duties

• Participate in the establishment of Polygraph Unit priorities, goals, and objectives necessary in accomplishing the mission of the FSD.
• Monitor, evaluate, and document performance of personnel assigned to the Polygraph Unit.
• Plan, direct, and supervise the work associated with the Polygraph Unit.
• Fulfill the quality assurance responsibilities of the Polygraph Unit as required by the Polygraph Procedure Manual.
• Maintain analytical proficiency in polygraph examination.
• Perform administrative and support functions as necessary to maintain polygraph examination services.
• Research, evaluate, procure, and provide for maintenance of necessary instrumentation to perform the Polygraph Unit’s mission.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate training programs for Polygraph Unit personnel.
• Maintain effective communication with the scientific and criminal justice communities and Department personnel.
• Conduct analysis on routine and highly complex polygraph examinations utilizing approved Polygraph Procedure Manual.
• Communicate polygraph examination procedures, methodology, policies, and conclusions to various elements in the criminal justice system including court testimony as an expert witness.
• Propose and implement Polygraph Unit goals and objectives.
• Distribute casework and operational assignments to Polygraph Unit personnel.
• Participate in the formulation of budget requests.
• Validate or supervise validation of new technical procedures.
• Maintain the Polygraph Unit’s resource materials.
• Maintain documentation of technical procedures in the Polygraph Procedure Manual.
• Participate in creation and annual review of management system documents.
• Provide and review proficiency testing and maintain associated records within the Polygraph Unit.
• Monitor conclusions and expert testimony of Polygraph Unit personnel.
• Direct, supervise, and evaluate the performance of Polygraph Unit and other FSD personnel as needed.
• Identify training needs, develop, and administer training programs.
• Inspect and conduct general maintenance of the polygraph equipment to ensure reliability and serviceability is maintained.
• Prepare recommendations with justification and specifications for the purchase of equipment and supplies.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, Rules, Regulations, and FSD policies.
• Perform other duties as required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Job Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree or higher required.
• Natural science, forensic science, and/or criminal justice classes are desired.
• Three years of full-time experience in a polygraph examiner position.
• Experience working criminal investigations desired.
• Must have successfully completed a FSD approved interview/interrogation course.
• Successful completion of an ISP recognized polygraph examination training program and competency testing.
• Successfully complete and maintain certification by a forensic organization approved by the FSD Commander.
• Advanced knowledge of polygraph examination techniques.
• Advanced knowledge of theory and practical operation of polygraph instrumentation.
• Ability to perform complex scientific procedures in an unbiased manner following the Polygraph Procedure Manual.
• Ability to comprehend, demonstrate, and explain advanced knowledge of theory and practical operation of various polygraph instruments and analytical techniques.
• Ability to effectively operate various computer systems and software.
• Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Ability to manage and adhere to established laboratory safety practices.
• Ability to comprehend and apply management and leadership theories and techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to testify as an expert witness in an objective, unbiased, and professional manner.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel by aircraft and other vehicles.
• Ability to attend training at alternate locations for extended periods of time.
