The Digital Evidence Technician performs routine support and moderate technical work in the City and County of Broomfield’s Police Department. Primary responsibilities include performing a variety of digital and media-related tasks of routine difficulty related to the storage, release, and redaction of body-worn camera digital media and other related sources as well as providing information and assistance to City and County staff and the public.

Duties

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
  • Maintains confidentiality of information consistent with applicable federal, state, and city/county rules and regulations.
  • Receives and maintains the inventory and storage of all digital data/media from body-worn cameras.
  • Maintains the inventory of all body-worn camera-related hardware.
  • Tracks and completes requests for data/voice/video recordings received by the department using various databases and software programs.
  • Completes duplication of digital data/media from body-worn cameras as requested by the District Attorney's Office, Defense Attorneys, or the general public.
  • Reviews and releases copies of digital data/media in accordance with federal/state statutes and departmental policies.
  • Disposes of digital data/media per federal/state statutes, departmental policies and City and County ordinances.
  • Completes reports that require accurately retrieving and entering data on a computer.
  • Testifies in municipal, district, and county court, as required.
  • Ensures that responsibilities are performed in compliance with federal and state regulations, Broomfield policies and procedures and the Broomfield Municipal Code.
  • Assists with the Property/Evidence Technician duties as required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Necessary Applicant Traits
  • Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, computers, and electronic data processing.
  • Working knowledge of digital data/media and the theory and practices of the duplication of digital media.
  • Skill in understanding and responding to customer service needs.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and work well with culturally diverse, varied, and demanding people.
  • Organize activities in order to complete tasks in accordance with priorities, address multiple demands, or meet deadlines; organize tasks and working environment to maximize efficiency.
  • Read, understand, and apply technical manuals, complex analytical methods, and research reports.
  • Employ and enforce safety practices and procedures.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
  • Identify equipment and procedural problems and recommend corrective action.
  • Ability to learn current records management principles and the statutory regulations governing records management.
  • Must have visual acuity correctable to 20/40 with no color impairment.
Minimum Qualifications Training
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Experience
  • Two years of related experience in the use of personal computers and copying software.
  • Experience with Axon body worn cameras and Evidence.com is preferred.
  • Experience in digital media work preferred.
  • Database experience with entries, retrievals, and maintenance of data files is required.
