Under the direct supervision of the High-Tech Forensic Evidence Unit Sergeant. The Deputy will be responsible for assisting members of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies as requested.

Duties

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support of criminal investigations
  • Evidence collection and processing from various crime scenes
  • Provide written reports regarding the support of criminal investigations
  • Provide suspect identification through technologically advanced investigative techniques
  • Provide instructional presentations to the community and other Law Enforcement agencies
  • Respond to various crime scenes in order to recover digital video data
  • Testify in court regarding investigations and computer forensic processes
  • Work closely with other HTCU team members, other HCSO Units, and regional law enforcement partner agencies
  • Respond as directed by HTCU supervisors to provide technical expertise and guidance to other HCSO Units and regional law enforcement partner agencies
  • Perform other assignments and duties as required and/or necessary

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be an Honorably Retired Peace Officer
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement, record management, or a related field
  • Must have an active TCOLE Peace Officer License
  • A minimum of two (2) years prior patrol and/or criminal investigative experience
Knowledge of:
  • Knowledge of the Texas Penal Code
  • Arrest Procedures
  • Knowledgeable in the rules of digital and physical evidence
  • Advanced techniques to locate and identify suspects
Skilled in
  • Proficient in the use of Superion/RMS, FileOnQ JWEB, CAD/RMS, Polaris, and JOTS computer systems; as well as the use of standard office software programs such as MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with report writing skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Microsoft Office Applications
  • Basic open-source intelligence gathering
  • Basic Computer Use
  • Use of basic social media
  • Willing to learn advanced computer techniques and applications pertinent to the investigation and prosecution of computer/Internet-based crime including computer hardware and network infrastructure
Ability to:
  • Work with computers & current technology
  • Effectively manage stressful situations associated with technologically advanced crime scenes
  • Manage a caseload with great attention to detail and effectively utilize time management skills
  • Work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Work within complex environments of large-scale operations
  • Provide Court testimony relative to the investigation
  • Give public presentations to schools, parents, and organizations on technology-related safety topics.
  • Perform in a high-volume environment with time constraints
  • Remain current on the training of new technology in the development of cybercrime investigations
  • Be available to respond to scenes as needed
  • Be available to work any shift
  • Be available to sometimes work flexible shift hours based on specific case requirements (e.g. search warrants and surveillance)
  • Be available to work varying duty hours as deemed necessary; with an excellent attendance record
  • Perform in a high-volume environment with time constraints
  • Multi-task, and manage a caseload with great attention to detail
PREFERENCES
