Crime Scene Specialist Supervisor

Salary: $39.62 - $59.42 Hourly

As the Police Crime Scene Specialist Supervisor in the Criminal Investigations Division of the Surprise Police Department, you will serve as a working leader responsible for guiding the Crime Scene Unit with experience, professionalism, and precision. In this critical role, you will be expected to manage caseloads, schedules, and real-time crime scene tasks, among other duties. As the leader, you are expected to continually evaluate the team’s needs and how they support the mission of the Surprise Police Department and the City’s strategic plan for the betterment of our community.

Duties

Summary of Duties
  • Incumbents perform complex and technical forensic investigations while supervising the Crime Scene Unit.
  • Responsibilities include overseeing crime scene processing operations, training and mentoring staff,
  • maintaining quality assurance,
  • and coordinating with internal and external partners to ensure that all evidence collection and documentation practices align with professional standards and departmental procedures.
  • This is a working supervisory position requiring both technical expertise and leadership.
  • The role is critical in supporting the Criminal Investigations Division, overseeing evidence-handling standards, and providing expert testimony as needed.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, Natural Science, or a related field -AND- a minimum of three (3) years of experience in crime scene processing or forensic investigations with a law enforcement agency;
  • -OR- an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as listed in the job description.
  • Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona Driver License.
  • Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a Crime Scene Investigator (CCSI), Crime Scene Analyst (CCSA), -OR- Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA) certification through the International Association of Identification (IAI).
  • Must obtain and maintain ACJIS Terminal Operator Certification within one (1) week of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current 10-print or latent fingerprint certification.
  • Prior experience working in an accredited forensic laboratory or ISO/IEC 17025 environment.
  • Knowledge of CALEA standards or similar accreditation.
  • One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
