Duties

The position of Evidence Technician will be responsible for all Eddy County Sheriff’s Office evidence in both the Carlsbad and Artesia offices. Evidence Custodian will oversee department Evidence Custodian Assistants and will document and properly care for all evidence, evidence records, evidence storage lockers and evidence storage. This job includes destruction orders for evidence, case management of evidence in storage, tagging and bar-coding evidence, abandoned and unclaimed property, evidence in nightly drop boxes and lockers, etc. Employee must be able to work with all department personnel professionally. Employee may be required to work irregular hours and schedules, attend job-related meetings, perform other duties as assigned and must perform all duties with minimal supervision.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Education
  • High School diploma or GED certificate required.
Experience
  • 2-5 years in the intake, handling, cataloging and inventorying evidence is desirable.
Communication
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills in English.
Background
  • Must have successfully passed criminal and employment background investigations.
  • Must have NO felony or domestic violence convictions or misdemeanors convictions involving moral turpitude.
  • MUST COMPLETE A PERSONAL INTEGRITY QUESTIONNAIRE (PIQ) WITH REQUIRED DOCUMENTS.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. verified thru E-Verify.
License
  • Must have, or ability to obtain, a valid NM driver’s license and be insurable by the County Insurance Authority.
  • MUST PROVIDE A CURRENT DRIVING RECORD.
Confidentiality
  • Must be able to recognize, work with and maintain confidential information.
Software
  • Should possess comprehensive knowledge and application skills of computer software programs, such as but not limited to, Word and Excel; and must have the ability to learn new software.
Performance
  • Ability to handle stress and respond appropriately in stressful situations.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties in the working conditions with equipment, tools and materials.
