Salary: $55,536 - $66,643 annually

The St. Louis County Government Department of Public Health is looking for a Forensic Investigator to join their team. The Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for investigating all sudden, unexpected, suspicious, unnatural or violent death or deaths that represent a threat to public health. The Investigators will evaluate and investigate reportable deaths according to defined policies and procedures to meet state and local laws.

Duties

Essential Function Examples

Assess death reports to determine the extent of investigation required to close any given case.
Perform scene investigations and determine associated facts related to death to assist in the determination of cause and manner of death.
Establish scientific positive identification of decedent, communicate with family members to notify them of decedent's death and determine disposition of remains.
Share investigative, forensic and medical information with involved agencies.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science or related field with at least one year of related experience.
A current, valid driver's license is also required.
Prefer law enforcement investigative experience, emergency medicine, medical examiner internship experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prefer completion of seminars related to death investigation.
Certification by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) is required within the first two years of employment.
