Forensic Investigator

Salary: $55,536 - $66,643 annually

The St. Louis County Government Department of Public Health is looking for a Forensic Investigator to join their team. The Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for investigating all sudden, unexpected, suspicious, unnatural or violent death or deaths that represent a threat to public health. The Investigators will evaluate and investigate reportable deaths according to defined policies and procedures to meet state and local laws.

Duties

Essential Function Examples
  • Assess death reports to determine the extent of investigation required to close any given case.
  • Perform scene investigations and determine associated facts related to death to assist in the determination of cause and manner of death.
  • Establish scientific positive identification of decedent, communicate with family members to notify them of decedent's death and determine disposition of remains.
  • Share investigative, forensic and medical information with involved agencies.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science or related field with at least one year of related experience.
  • A current, valid driver's license is also required.
  • Prefer law enforcement investigative experience, emergency medicine, medical examiner internship experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prefer completion of seminars related to death investigation.
  • Certification by the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) is required within the first two years of employment.
