Duties

Position Description
  • Receive, process and store found, seized or other property taken into custody by Sheriff’s Office staff.
  • Record inventory numbers and item descriptions. Safely store items in proper, designated areas.
  • Maintain records in a manner that allows ease of retrieval and identification.
  • Retrieve property items for evidentiary use at trials and other legal proceedings, for testing, for laboratory analysis, and for disposal.
  • Assist with the disposal of property items through the Sheriff’s sale.
  • Deliver evidence to and retrieve evidence from BCI and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly storeroom (e.g. sweeps, dusts.).
  • Perform other tasks related to the maintenance, retrieval, and disposal of confiscated property.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of inventory control and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.
  • Ability to apply principles to solve practical everyday problems, copy material accurately.
  • Recognize grammatical and spelling errors, gather collate and classify information about data, people, and things.
  • Carry out instructions in written, oral or picture form. Count, copy and record figures.
  • Sort items into categories according to established methods, arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order.
  • Cooperate with co-workers on group projects.
Unusual Working Conditions
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended or intermittent periods of time.
