Duties

Advanced technical, administrative, and supervisory duties involved in the collecting, documenting, and preserving of evidence at a crime scene; and related work as required. Shift, weekend, and holiday work is required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

(Promotional)
  • Permanent status with the City of New Orleans and two (2) years of experience as a Crime Scene Investigation Lead Specialist.
(Original entrance)
  • High School graduation or G.E.D.
  • Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least twelve credit hours in Criminal Justice, Chemistry, Biology, Forensic Science, or a closely related scientific field. Official transcripts must be presented to the New Orleans Civil Service Department within two (2) weeks of application.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Five (5) years of full-time experience in crime scene investigation. This must have included two (2) years of supervisory experience in the collecting, documenting, and preserving of evidence at crime scenes.
  • An associate's degree is preferred.
Note: Additional experience collecting, documenting, and preserving of evidence at crime scenes may substitute for the required college credit at the rate of one (1) year of related experience equals 30 hours (one year) of college credits.
