Duties

To serve as custodian to all property and evidence received into the property room of the Little Rock Police Department by retrieving property and evidence and transporting to property room; processes and enters into a computerized property inventory database and places in secure areas; maintains appropriate chain of custody in compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws, statutes and rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Little Rock Police Department Property Room.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of high school and one (1) year of experience in property storage or inventory control, or a related area; one (1) year of personal computer experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
  • Must possess Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Level 1 certification within six (6) months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of storeroom or warehouse storage methods, principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of property storage principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement evidentiary procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of weapons safety and storage.
  • Knowledge of property auction practices.
  • Knowledge of computer fundamentals and business software, including spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer, utilizing spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission vehicle.
  • Ability to learn and apply the rules and regulations governing the auction and destruction of property.
  • Ability to learn and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing the receipt and control of evidence and property obtain by the Police Department.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations relative to property and evidence.
  • Ability to learn and apply safety rules and procedures for handling, clearing and storage of various firearms and weapons.
  • Ability to learn and apply the proper procedures for processing and storing hazardous and bio hazardous materials.
  • Ability to catalog and store evidentiary items for presentation in criminal proceedings.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records regarding the chain of custody of evidence.
  • Ability to testify in court regarding the integrity of the evidence storage process.
  • Ability to learn, apply and interpret ACIC/NCIC system codes.
  • Ability to compile information and prepare various concise and accurate reports.
  • Ability to maintain a computerized property inventory system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
