Crime Scene Technician I

This is technical work in processing crime scenes for the Mobile County Sheriff's Office in both indoor and outdoor settings.

Duties

  • Performs general crime scene processing such as collecting, preserving, and labeling evidence found at the scene.
  • Conducts crime scene processing for death investigations, traffic accidents, fire and arson, burglary, robbery, and other areas as designated by the Mobile Police Department.
  • Photographs crime or accident scenes and evidence.
  • Prepares crime scene sketches.
  • Compares latent fingerprints to ink prints and makes print cases.
  • Presents evidence in court on prints and evidence collection.
  • Maintains and updates fingerprint files.
  • Interviews witnesses to develop suspect composites.
  • Trains new officers in crime scene analysis techniques.
  • Maintains specialized equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains lab.
  • Prepares and maintains crime scene documentation.
  • Trains officers in crime scene collection practices.
  • Submits evidence for examination to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science as directed.
  • Performs related work as required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school, or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, supplemented by college course work in criminal justice or forensic science or one year experience in crime scene evidence processing; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
