Duties

This position is responsible for performing a variety of professional, analytical, and technical work involving computer forensics.
  • Performs acquisitions, examinations, and analysis on digital evidence.
  • Consults with Attorneys, Court Investigators, and Police Officers on cases.
  • Analyzes and presents reports on cell tower records of evidentiary value.
  • Completes thorough reports and provides guidelines on digital evidence findings.
  • Presents expert testimonies on digital evidence for criminal trials and proceedings.
  • Assists Investigators with legal processes for acquiring targeted digital data.
  • Creates copies of digital evidence for Investigators.
  • Assists Police Officers and Investigators with technology related problems.
  • Researches forensic tools, software, and programs to augment investigations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of digital forensics practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and programs, software, and technology devices.
  • Knowledge of both the state of Georgia and City of Columbus, Georgia laws.
  • Skill in analyzing data and report writing.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Windows, Office Suite.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment.
  • Skill in problem solving, decision making, and making recommendations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field is required.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of computer forensics, usually interpreted to require two years of related experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

  • Balancing – maintain equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching.
  • Feeling – perceiving attributes of objects by touch with skin, fingertips.
  • Grasping – applying pressure to object with fingers, palm.
  • Handling – picking, holding, or working with whole hand.
  • Hearing 1 – perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, receive information.
  • Hearing 2 – receive detailed information, make discrimination in sound.
  • Kneeling – bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.
  • Lifting – raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.
  • Manual Dexterity – picking, pinching, typing, working with fingers rather than hand.
  • Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.
  • Pushing – use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.
  • Reaching – extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, fingers.
  • Speaking – expressing ideas with spoken word, convey detailed, important instructions accurately, concisely.
  • Stooping – bending body downward, forward at waist, with full motion of lower extremities and back.
  • Talking 1- expressing ideas by spoken word
  • Talking 2 – shouting to be heard above ambient noise.
  • Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
  • Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision.
  • Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table.
