Duties

As the Property and Evidence Technician, you will:
  • Respond to calls for service of crime scene processing as directed by the SSD Lieutenant or Criminal Investigations Section supervisor.
  • Receive, package, document, and store evidence or found items submitted by police officers.
  • Research cases for court dispositions or supplemental police reports and advise on the disposal of evidence.
  • Properly dispose of and document evidence that is no longer needed.
  • Return evidence or found property to lawful owners.
  • Deposit and document currency submitted by officers into City of San Luis General Fund Account and document such transaction.
  • Process evidence for a wide variety of crime scenes such as homicides, suicides, officer-involved shootings, domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse and suspicious, natural and accidental death scenes.
  • Maintain manual and computerized records, including evidence custody documents, chain of custody documents, property receipts, property control files, and related reports.
  • Transport materials and documents.
  • Inspect, order, and maintain authorized department equipment/supplies that are used for processing crime scenes and/or gathering evidence.
  • Support management of the digital evidence system by organizing and redacting digital video evidence upon request.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Minimum Requirements

Education, Training and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in record keeping, inventory control, or related field, preferably in a law enforcement or high security environment.
Licenses and Certificates:
  • All Licenses and Certifications required must be maintained throughout employment.
  • A valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Special Requirements:
  • Residency within 25 miles of San Luis and within the US.
  • Must have the ability to pass an extensive background check, including a polygraph examination.
Desired/Preferred:
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • San Luis residency.
