Crime Scene Manager

Durham Police Department, Durham, North Carolina

Salary: $90,002.00 - $144,020.00 Annually

This position is devoted to providing support functions for law enforcement activities and staff including investigatory assistance, evidence processing and retention, crime analysis, victim assistance and forensic science. Serves as a second level or higher supervisor and has middle management level responsibilities.

Duties

  • Manages law enforcement support operations; supervises staff, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work, training and coaching; develops and oversee the implementation of policies and procedures; assesses current and future operational needs; researches emerging trends, techniques, and equipment; plans and implements process and operational improvements; and ensures compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares and manages budgets; monitors and approves expenditures; prepares or oversees the preparation of cost estimates and forecasts; analyzes financial and related information; makes and/or approves budget recommendations; and makes resource allocation and funding decisions.
  • Manages the preparation of reports, maps, proposals, contracts, records, files, and other documents; oversees the updating and maintenance of databases and specialized software; manages research and data analysis; reviews work and holds staff accountable for informational accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Serves as a liaison to law enforcement staff, City departments, and/or external agencies; serves as a representative of the City and of assigned law enforcement support activities; ensures accurate and timely processing requests and inquiries; and provides subject-matter expertise and technical assistance.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, biological science, Anthropology, or directly related field.
  • Six years of related Crime Scene experience.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
Additional Preferred Skills
  • IAI Crime Scene Certification
  • General Instructor Certification
  • Data Entry Experience
  • Creation of polices and procedures
  • Managing budgets
