Salary:
Crime Scene Analyst I: $32.1990 per hour - $43.4687 per hour
Crime Scene Analyst II: $36.0629 per hour - $48.6850 per hour

Performs crime scene processing and investigation for the Police Department to include identifying, documenting, collecting and preserving evidence. Provides testimony in court, performs various laboratory examinations of evidence, and other duties as assigned. Positions perform duties with infrequent instruction or assistance when new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit and forensic best practice.

Duties

Essential Functions
  • Conducts a detailed and complete crime scene investigation by locating, documenting, collecting, preserving, analyzing, and interpreting all types of biological, trace, impression, and physical evidence.
  • Performs laboratory examinations of evidence, including specialized processing involving physical, chemical, and digital methods.
  • Utilizes a Leica 3D Laser scanner and OSCR360 image capture kit at major scenes and prepares computer-generated diagrams/visual aids.
  • May prepare graphic representations and scale drawings for criminal investigations.
  • Performs advanced techniques to include bloodstain pattern documentation, crime scene reconstruction, trajectory analysis, and other specialized methods that require technical knowledge and training. (Required for CSA 2)
  • Prepares detailed reports of activities performed during laboratory and scene investigations, and peer reviews other reports.
  • Will attend autopsies to photograph, document, and collect evidence.
  • Collects physical evidence from suspects in custody, including clothing, buccal swabs, gunshot residue, nail clippings, and trace evidence.
  • Provides testimony on forensic investigation and laboratory techniques in court.
  • Will be scheduled in an on-call rotation for the Forensic Services Unit and will be asked, on occasion, to respond to investigations while off duty and not on-call.
  • Attends classes and training sessions to develop expertise in forensic disciplines.
  • Assists in preparing and presenting training to police officers, collateral CSI’s, community members, and interns.
  • Assist police officers and detectives with follow-up investigation needs.
Other Duties
  • Respond in a timely matter to the Loveland Police Department or respective scene location. Will be required to tow a crime scene trailer on occasion.
  • Carry and respond to calls and text messages on a work cell phone.
  • Work long and varied hours/shifts, on-call assignments, possible overtime, holidays, and weekends in potentially unfavorable work conditions.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

  • Within 1 year of hire must obtain certification as a Certified Crime Scene Investigator (CCSI) by the International Association for Identification.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, hard science, or related field preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of photographic techniques, latent print processing, and an understanding of DNA and trace evidence collection techniques.
  • Must Possess a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must live within 25-mile radius within 1 year of hire.
Additional requirements to be qualified as a CSA II
  • 3 years of crime scene investigation experience required.
  • Currently certified or has the required training and experience to become a Certified Crime Scene Investigator (CCSI), Certified Crime Scene Analyst (CCSA), or Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA) by the International Association for Identification within 1 year of hire.
  • Experience performing advanced techniques to include bloodstain pattern documentation, crime scene reconstruction, trajectory analysis, and other specialized methods that require technical knowledge and training.
