DNA Analyst (Criminalist II)

Salary: $75,279.21 - $91,581.31 per year

Duties

Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes items of evidence (extraction, real time quantitation, PCR amplification and genotyping/capillary electrophoresis, data analysis and report writing, evaluation for CODIS eligibility, and technical review of other analysts' data).
  • Communicates with investigators, ADAs and courts.
  • Assists in training Criminalist I.
  • Provides training to the law enforcement community.
  • Processes crime scenes and vehicles independently.
  • Undertakes fulfillments of requirements for certification in appropriate discipline, including embarking on complex training programs in the appropriate discipline.
  • Regularly provides expert witness testimony.
  • May supervise interns.
  • Contributes to DNA validation projects.
  • Contributes to lab activities to maintain ASCLD/LAB-ISO accreditation.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:
  • Minimum of four (4) year bachelor's degree in natural science, forensic science or closely related field including college courses in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology and statistics.
  • Five (5) years forensic science experience with no exchange for a graduate degree, to include training for evidence examination and processing for specific unit/section, and training for providing expert witness testimony in court.
  • Must have the ability to write comprehensive technical reports and interpret complex test results.
  • Full knowledge of legal and courtroom proceedings.
  • Extensive testimony experience.
  • Full knowledge of the ISO 17025 standards and ASCLD supplemental requirements.
  • Ability to take a lead role in processing complex crime scenes and vehicle examinations.
  • Ability to prioritize casework.
  • Ability to process crime scene or vehicle independently .
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
