Evidence Technician

Starting Salary: $20.26 Hourly

The Evidence Technician is responsible for assisting and administering security, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of evidence. The Evidence Tech safeguards the chain of custody of all evidence.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Office Manager, the Evidence Clerk will:
  • Handle highly sensitive and confidential materials including guns, drugs, and money
  • Inspect each piece of evidence using safe handling procedures and logs into the tracking system
  • Secure all evidence for each case in a container and mark with a tracking mechanism that is recorded in the system
  • Record any movement of evidence released to responsible parties and track the location of such evidence
  • Routinely audit the evidence inventory and updates status as needed
  • Retrieve evidence with a Return of Property Order as requested
  • Follow destruction policies established by the ME’s Office
  • Coordinate with proper authorities when firearm and drug destruction is necessary
  • Testify in court when necessary

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • College degree preferred
  • Three (3) years prior experience in the criminal justice system
  • Proficient with Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • A valid driver’s license is required
