Evidence & Property Technician

Temple Police Department, Temple, Texas

Salary: $18.99 per hour

Under general supervision, this position will be responsible for the intake, storage, and disposal of all department evidence received.

Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receives and scans incoming evidence, property into computer to establish initial control and visually inspects each piece of incoming evidence / property
  • Maintains proper release and destruction of evidence accordance with applicable laws and retention periods
  • Maintains, establishes, and coordinates custody controls of evidence, property, and items removed from storage
  • Continues to maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local laws related to electronic evidence management
  • Collects, downloads, and preserves electronic audio and video evidence in accordance with agency guidelines
  • Orders, maintains and stocks inventory of the property rooms
  • Serves as liaison for electronic evidence matters between the agency and other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies
  • Identifies court-order, and inventory narcotics for drug training kits
  • Generates and documents forms for submission and transports evidence to and from the State labs
  • Provides courtroom testimony regarding evidence
  • Distributes lab reports to concerned parties in the judicial system
  • Returns property to owners in person or via mail
  • Responsible for record retention and schedules of records maintained in the Property Unit
  • Monitors the budget within the assigned division and approves purchases up to assigned amount
  • Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Pass a criminal background check and polygraph
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Driver License
  • Property & Evidence Certification through TEEX (preferred)
  • Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory Technicians (TAPEIT) Property & Evidence Certification (preferred)
