Sheriff's Property and Evidence Specialist I

As a Sheriff's Property and Evidence Specialist I you will receive, identify, preserve, record and store property and items of physical evidence; transport property and evidence to and from Sheriff's stations and Main Evidence; and maintains accurate chain of custody records.

Duties

  • Receives, identifies, preserves, records, and stores property and items of physical evidence.
  • Transports property and evidence to and from Sheriff's Stations to Main Evidence.
  • Checks and processes evidence, laboratory service requests, court orders, and other forms and documents.
  • Maintains accurate chain of custody records.
  • Releases property with supervisor's approval.
  • May answer the telephone to provide information and relay messages.
  • Performs light typing duties.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Six (6) months of experience receiving, storing, releasing and disposing of property and evidence in a law enforcement agency;
-OR-
  • Six (6) months of stock room/ warehouse experience performing duties such as receiving, storing, and issuing supplies and equipment; maintaining inventory records; and conducting physical inventories.
Physical Requirements
  • Continuous: upward and downward flexion of the neck.
  • Frequent: incumbents use physical strength and agility on a continual basis, including lifting objects frequently weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally weighing up to 70 pounds;sitting, repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
  • Occasional: walking, standing, bending and twisting of neck, bending and twisting of waist, squatting, simple grasping, reaching above and below shoulder level, and lifting and carrying of files weighing up to 10 pounds.
