Salary: $41,255.00 - $45,000.00 Annually

This non-sworn civilian role is essential to our mission of maintaining public safety, ensuring that evidence is handled properly, and assisting in the administration of justice.

Duties

As an Evidence Clerk, you will:
  • Maintain Evidence Integrity: Receive, store, and manage evidence while maintaining the chain of custody to ensure accuracy and prevent contamination.
  • Documentation & Records: Prepare, review, and organize administrative records related to evidence, including case numbers and property verification.
  • Court Preparation: Prepare evidence for court proceedings, testify in court as needed, and manage the proper transmission and transportation of evidence.
  • Evidence Distribution: Coordinate the transfer of evidence to and from crime labs, criminal justice agencies, and the courts.
  • Manage Property Room: Sort and secure property delivered to evidence lockers, ensure proper lawful disposition, and release property as appropriate.
  • Support Investigations: Assist investigators with various tasks, including drafting emails, processing complaints, and handling intra-office communications.
  • Digital Evidence Management: Monitor digital evidence systems, ensuring accurate uploads and retention schedules for body cam footage and other digital materials.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

What We’re Looking For:
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an office setting, preferably with exposure to the criminal justice field.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement methods, search and seizure, and evidence handling.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and make independent decisions in situations with limited precedent.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Department of Criminal Justice Services certification preferred or ability to obtain.
