Fingerprint Technician Supervisor

Salary: $27.08 - $35.48 Hourly

Duties

Examples of Work
  • Supervises technical and support employees to include conducting performance evaluations, initiating and issuing disciplinary actions, reviewing and signing time sheets, and approving/disapproving leave requests;
  • Participates in the selection process by interviewing job candidates and making recommendations to management of preferred candidates;
  • Conducts quality control reviews and documents standard operating procedures;
  • Trains employees in the technical aspects of criminal identification through fingerprints, prisoner processing, and filing of identification information;
  • Drafts various reports and memos;
  • Presents testimony and evidence in court;
  • Maintains (e.g., updates, converts, purges) files and generates statistics regarding Identification Unit activities;
  • Conducts file audits and records retention reviews in accordance with department policies and court orders;
  • Represents Division of Police and Identification Unit at meetings, presentations, and tours.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, or Computer Forensics

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of experience obtaining and identifying fingerprints. Substitution(s): Two (2) years of supervisory experience may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience. Additional years of supervisory experience may substitute on a year for year basis.
  • Possession of LEADS/BCI certification by the end of the probationary period.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of fingerprints and palm prints; considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision; skill to obtain, compare, and match fingerprints; ability to train others; ability to operate a computer and relevant software; ability to read and comprehend memoranda, technical reports, and textbooks; ability to copy numbers and letters accurately; ability to write detailed and comprehensive technical reports; ability to communicate verbally about fingerprints to coworkers, making oneself understood; ability to file records according to an alphanumeric system.
