Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains computer hardware, software, and technical support records.
  • Provides help desk assistance for end users of computer hardware and software.
  • Evaluates, installs, and maintains computer hardware and software including desktop computers, print devices, Ethernet technology, wireless devices, routers, switches, video-conferencing equipment, and security systems.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of status and progress in various information, technology programs and activities.
  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of information, technology issues.
  • Creates training material as needed for departments and employees.
  • Trains employees in the use of computer hardware and software.
  • Manages the operation of information and functional systems for the Department under direction of the Director of Public Safety and Service Manager.
  • Manages computer operation scheduling, backup, storage, and retrieval functions under the direction of the Director of Public Safety and Support Service Manager.
  • Assist in collecting evidence.
  • Assist in crime scene processing.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of procedures relating to information and technology.
  • Attend meetings and events of local, regional, and state organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Education and/or Experience
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Software
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook Internet software; Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word processing software.
Computer Hardware
  • Be familiar with the generic configuration and build of a desktop computer and know the basics of how to troubleshoot and replace hardware components.
Networking
  • Requires troubleshooting network issues and hardware issues; have working knowledge of networking basics, wireless technology; and soft skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license required.
  • A+ and MCSE certifications preferred.
