Evidence Technician

Salary: $37,593.00 - $57,863.00 Annually

This position is devoted to providing support functions for law enforcement activities and staff including investigatory assistance, evidence processing and retention, crime analysis, victim assistance and forensic science. Performs administrative, technical and/or customer support work for law enforcement personnel and citizens. There is an established operational routine to be followed and decisions are limited primarily to choosing how quickly the work is performed and the sequence in which the work is performed to meet established standards and deadlines.

Responsible for entering data, responding to inquiries, ensuring accuracy of data or evidence, providing customer service, and processing information. Receive, process, record, store and dispose of physical evidence including, maintaining chain of custody and records; assuring security of property and evidence storage areas; processing evidence for transport to labs; distributing lab reports; ensuring proper procedures are followed; and providing customer service.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Facilitates chain of custody operations by receiving, packing, processing, recording, storing, transporting, and/or disposing evidence; ensures accuracy and security of evidence and assigned storage areas; and ensures compliance with chain of custody and other applicable policies and procedures.
  • Maintains databases, records, logs, reports, files, folders, and other documents; prepares information packets; enters and updates data; and reviews work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provides customer service, typically interacting with law enforcement personnel and the public in accordance with evidence-handling protocols; testifies in court, as assigned; responds to routine inquiries in person, via phone or email following all protocols and confidentiality requirements; and refers non-standard inquiries to higher level staff.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC)
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license "or" if you currently have another states driver's license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire.
Additional Preferred Skills
  • Must be able to work in a warehouse setting.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule and be on-call.
  • Required to lift at least 20lbs.
