Duties

The Digital Forensic Examiner/Incident Responder shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below:
  • Detect compromised systems, and identify how and when a breach occurred, understand what attack, and successfully contain and remediate incidents.
  • Conduct forensic investigations, both internally and externally; Collect, preserve and analyze data and digital evidence.
  • Perform forensic examinations and preserve analyzed data obtained from examining electronic devices, including laptop, desktop computers, servers, mobile devices.
  • Identify cybercriminals through open-source research and analyze technologies used by them.
  • Assist with incident response and perform tasks such as threat hunting, data recovery, email analysis and malware analysis across multiple types of operating systems.
  • Respond to security threats and incidents, individually and as part of a team to resolve issues.
  • Provide proactive intelligence to teammates who will source threats, enact identification, contain, and eradicate measures while supporting recovery efforts to improve the District’s security posture.
  • Provide detailed reports or verbally communicate security incidents to the appropriate departments, management, legal, and security operations.
  • Conduct research regarding the latest methods, tools, and trends in digital forensics analysis and informing team members and project stakeholders of latest threats and avoidance techniques.
  • Present evidence to investigators and able to speak about techniques and evidence collection practices in hearings, if requested.
  • Experience investigating incidents using open source forensic tools, Microsoft Office 365 Security tools, Wireshark, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) logs, Security Information & Event Management (SIEM), and syslogs.
  • Create thorough reports and documentation of all incidents and procedures; presenting findings to team and leadership on a routine basis.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to the job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, or designee.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • An earned associate degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience within the last seven (7) years of experience in the field related to the title of the position.
  • OR
  • A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years within the last twelve (12) years of experience in the field related dot the title of the position.
  • AND
  • Experience in detecting, tracking, and responding to digital security incidents.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • An earned bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field from an accredited institution.
  • One or more active industry certifications in the following: GCFE: Certified Forensic Examiner, GCFA: Certified Forensic Analyst, GNFA: network Forensic Analyst, GASF: Advanced Smartphone Forensic, GREM: Reverse Engineering Malware, GCTO: Cyber Threat Intelligence, GCIH: Certified Incident Handler, CompTIA Security+ | CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+).
  • Bilingual skills.
