Associate Criminalist

We are looking for an Associate Criminalist to join the City of Charleston's Police Department! In this role, you will utilize forensic techniques to analyze evidence submitted to the Chemistry Section of the Forensic Services Division.

Duties

Examples of Duties
  • Utilizes Forensic Science techniques to identify controlled substances.
  • Utilizes Forensic Science techniques to identify ignitable liquids.
  • Analyzes evidence in order to aid investigations of crimes.
  • Maintains the integrity of evidence from the time it is submitted until it is disposed of properly.
  • Testifies in court concerning the results of analyses and the methodologies used to identify controlled substances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) from an accredited college or university in chemistry, forensic chemistry, or another physical science.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of related experience and/or training performing seized drugs analysis in an accredited laboratory.
