DNA Technical Leader

Salary: $95,181.00 Annually

The DNA Technical Leader oversees the technical operations of forensic DNA laboratory casework on evidentiary materials including evaluation and preparation of evidence, DNA typing, interpretation of analytical results and preparation of case reports and providing expert courtroom testimony. The DNA Technical Leader evaluates and approves all validations, educational and training records, outsourcing agreements, audit documents, corrective actions, and standard operating procedures. The DNA Technical Leader possesses the authority to initiate, suspend and resume technical operations for the DNA unit and/or staff. Work also includes providing quality assurance program support through technical oversight and leadership of the DNA unit to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and accreditation requirements. Meeting with the Crime Laboratory Director and DNA Analysts to discuss possible issues and future plans to enhance the capabilities of the DNA unit is an important component of the job; and related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific field.*
  • Twelve (12) semester hours of college course work that must have included all of the following areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and either: statistics or population genetics. OFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE NEW ORLEANS CIVIL SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITHIN TWO (2) WEEKS OF APPLICATION.
  • Three (3) years of full-time professional forensic human DNA experience.
NOTE:
  • A PH.D in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field may be substituted for two (2) years of professional experience.
  • Civil Service reserves the right to determine which degrees are considered closely related.
