Logistics and Evidence Technician

Sherwood Police Department, Sherwood, Arkansas

Salary: $16.85 per hour + DOE

Represents the Department to the public, other law enforcement agencies, courts, prosecutors, and the AR Crime Lab by telephone and through personal contact. Responsible for interfacing with all members of the Department in the collection and handling of evidence and the owner when it is no longer needed by the criminal justice process.

  • Conducts records maintenance to include entering data into computer systems, preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports, and other duties as assigned
  • Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances.
  • Ensures that all items of evidentiary material meet the legal requirements of custodial documentation prior to acceptance into the evidence depository; ensures the safeguarding of these items while in his/her custody; and ensures the evidence log, chain of custody record, and the final disposition files are properly maintained.
  • Conducts periodic inventories of all evidence held in the facility as specified by law and policies and procedures of the Department; ensures that all evidence is disposed of in accordance with current laws and policies and procedures. Incumbent ensures the transfer or shipping of evidentiary material to other law enforcement agencies or laboratories complies with established Crime Lab and Department policies and procedures.
  • Provides testimony at trials when subpoenaed. Such testimony may occur in or out of the City/County.
  • Research backgrounds when returning evidence.
  • Maintain a current list of all police department vehicles, to include unit number, vehicle identification number, license plate number and last reported mileage.
  • Coordinates with the repair shop for the proper and timely maintenance/repair of police vehicles
  • Coordinates with equipment suppliers and repair facilities for the installation and/or repair of in-car equipment.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of office supplies for use by the entire police department. Purchase supplies as needed. Distribute supplies in a timely manner when requested by branch personnel.
  • Reviews purchase requisitions to determine the purchase or bid requirement based on the appropriate cost of items requested. Identify and contact prospective vendors to obtain price and availability data.
  • Reviews purchase orders and field requisitions for accuracy, completeness, and conformance with City policies. Compares invoices with purchase order / requisition to ensure quotation price corresponds with the actual price being billed to the city; notes any reasons for discrepancy from quotation price.
  • Coordinates with Commander, Services Support Division for the sale of surplus property at public auction.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology


  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements and preferences listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required and/or preferred.
  • High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or 12-18 months clerical experience, including six months experience in data entry operations and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a current Arkansas Driver’s License, Basic knowledge of car repair.

  • Ability to maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with other employees, department officials and the public.
