Duties

Under supervision,
  • You will assist with collection, custody, disposition, and care of evidence and property brought into the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office possession.
  • To ensure security, you will receive and log evidence into the property and evidence facility.
  • You will maintain and use the property and evidence tracking system to locate items.
  • You will assist with the disposition of property and cases, prepare requested evidence, and ensure compliance with court orders, departmental operating procedures, and applicable laws.
  • You will assist with the scheduling and transporting of evidence and property to other locations.
  • You will assist with appropriately disposing of items for destruction, sale, auction, and department use.
  • You will maintain and provide records and reports related to the transfer, release, and disposition of evidence and property to ensure proper description, location, chain of custody, and item integrity.
  • You may be required to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 Earn a Degree in Crime Scene Investigation, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics or Forensic Psychology

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of general office and database management experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Inventory control experience is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
