Duties:

Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
  • The Property/Evidence Technician is officially appointed or designated to assume custodial control and maintenance of security over all property stored in the Police Department's evidence rooms, safes, or other repositories. This involves receiving items of evidence or property and ensuring proper procedures are followed to ensure the integrity of the chain of custody. Ability to lift and handle at least 40 lbs. from a shelf and willingness to maintain conditioning that allows the proper handling, transporting, moving and destruction of evidence is necessary. The technician will prepare written reports as applicable to the position and testify in court when necessary to establish legal chain of evidentiary custody. This position is subject to being "On Call / Call Out" status. Must obtain DCI certification from the State of North Carolina within probationary period. A valid driver's license is required when applying for the Property Evidence Technician position. The job is Non-Exempt under FLSA.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED with 1-3 years of experience handling evidence and or general warehouse experience
  • OR
  • No High School Diploma/GED with 5-7 years of experience handling evidence and or general warehouse experience

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Microsoft Windows Office Suite experience (Word,, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bi-lingual
  • Previous experience in a law enforcement setting
  • Prior courtroom testimony experience
