Property Technician

Salary: $34,278.40 annually

Assists with receiving, cataloging, storage, transport and disposal of physical evidence and other property coming into custody of the Sheriff. Ordering, issuing, receiving and maintaining inventory of uniforms and other equipment issued to employees.

Duties:

Central Supply Function:
  • Issues uniforms and equipment to recruit deputies and other employees.
  • Maintains employee clothing/equipment inventory records.
  • Receives uniforms and equipment from terminating employees.
  • Maintains an on-hand inventory of serviceable items suitable for issuance/exchange.
  • Participates in the testing, procurement, and/or evaluation of new items when needed.
  • Assists in the development of annual budgets.
  • Orders and/or requests purchases of uniforms and equipment.
  • Prepares various department records and reports.
  • Participates in the destruction of contraband and other items in accordance with policy.
  • Assists in transporting items seized on search warrants when necessary.
Property and Evidence Function:
  • Receives physical evidence, found property, personal property, seized items and other property taken into Sheriff’s custody.
  • Releases property to owners of other authorized parties.
  • Maintains detailed records of property transactions.
  • Delivers evidence for forensic testing.
  • Prepares journal entries for the disposal of property.
  • May instruct employees on proper methods of marking, packaging, and submitting evidence.
  • Maintains storage facilities in a neat, clean, and orderly condition.
  • May be required to respond on calls after normal business hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State of Kansas Driver’s License.
  • No record of criminal conviction, diversion, or expungment of any felony or crime of dishonesty.
  • Successful completion of the applicant process and Civil Service certification.
  • No record of criminal conviction, diversion, or expungement of any felony or crime of dishonesty, or the equivalent under the uniform code of military justice.
  • Pass a Typing test minimum 45wpm.
  • Pass a Reading Comprehension test: 80% minimum.
