Property & Evidence Specialist

Duties:

Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties

• Accepts and logs all property and evidence.
• Takes inventory of evidence; inventories property in accordance with department policy.
• Stores evidence. Inventories equipment and supplies in Police Department. Orders supplies once a week including office and break room. Orders equipment for department and ocean rescue. Orders and issues uniforms to personnel.
• Creates and maintains files for employees and equipment.
• Transports evidence to Dade County, i.e., drugs or lab items such as fingerprints. Transports property once a week.
• Schedules service and repair for equipment.
• Assists in budget planning; provides input information once a year.
• Represents the City to the public when asked or required to do so as it relates to the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Good knowledge of office practices and procedures including filing and basic record keeping. Good knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment including work processing and computer equipment. Good knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Good knowledge of business letter writing and typing formats. Good knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; ability to organize and maintain accurate records and files; ability to learn the operation, policy and procedures of the City and the assigned department or office; ability to perform clerical and administrative support work using some independent judgment.
• Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, government regulations, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, and correspondence. Ability to speak before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Good knowledge of personal computers and literate in Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and Bar Coder.
• Performs additional task as assigned.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by one (1) year experience in maintaining inventory; or any acceptable related combination of training and experience.
• Licenses and/or Certifications:
• Crime Scene Investigation certification preferred.
