Duties:

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff in providing laboratory analysis services.
  • Identify and analyze body fluids including blood and semen; determine and classify fluid into hematological groups.
  • Prepare comparisons and identifications of various botanical materials.
  • Analyze and report results of tests for a variety of specimens including drugs, poisons, and related chemical compounds.
  • Analyze handwriting, paper, and other documentary evidence to determine authenticity; conduct detection of erasures, additions and alterations; restore and recover obliterations.
  • Prepare written reports of findings and conclusions; present evidence in court.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
  • Six years of responsible forensic laboratory experience including three years at a level similar to the Criminalist II at the City of Jackson.
  • Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, biology, medical technology or a related field.
