Quartermaster-Evidence Technician

Clovis Police Department, Clovis, New Mexico

Salary: $13.56 - $20.34 Hourly

Under supervision, the Police Quartermaster is responsible for the general oversight of the police department’s equipment and supply function. Duties include issuing equipment and other supplies to department personnel, identifying and evaluating returned equipment, making equipment and supply purchases, and maintaining inventory records.

The Police Quartermaster also assists as a Police Evidence Technician. Duties include assisting with the maintenance of inventory housed and released from the evidence section at the direction of the Evidence Specialist. Additional duties include; research for cases involving evidence to determine the need to hold or remove from evidence, fulfill requests for discovery and provide minor system analysis for the evidence management system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities):
  • Complete an inventory of all department equipment;
  • Complete an inventory of all Clovis Police Department equipment and property furnishing the Supervisor, Chief, and City property custodian a complete copy of the report;
  • Issue equipment to Police Officers and employees;
  • Order equipment and supplies as requested;
  • Ensure all equipment used by the department is kept in working order at all times;
  • Retrieve and account for all equipment turned in by employees who no longer work for the Police Department;
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City and Department policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Receive training on the use of Narcan
  • Understand the function of the department Evidence Unit
  • Assist with receiving and releasing evidence
  • Participate in planned and unannounced audits of the Evidence Unit
  • Attend and pass Evidence Technician Certification Training
  • Attend training on Courtroom procedures and testimony
  • Willing to handle and pass training on safe weapons handling
  • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot reported issues with Digital Evidence Management System
  • Research of case closures, and assist with the preparation of Evidence Destruction Orders
  • Backfill evidence shelves to help keep evidence area neat and orderly

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency, and
  • Knowledge and experience with inventory management programs
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s License or its equivalent.
  • Primary duties will include, sitting, walking, and standing for a significant period of time.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, lead a section of employees, communicate effectively, discern noises that may require investigation, interrogate and interview people, and perform telephone and radio communication;
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to handle a firearm safely and package or turn it over to personnel when being issued for use.
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, stamina, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to lift, carry and handle packages shipped to and received at the police department.
