Evidence Specialist

Duties:

Examples of Duties

• Enters property into RMS; releases property to the public; retrieves property from the warehouse; stores and purges property from the warehouse.
• Modifies dispositions, check requests; enters ATF Trace Forms, IBIS and bank deposits; conducts inventories, lab trips; mails letters; performs back-ground checks.
• Ensures alarms are set properly; ensures property that is to be stored in secure vaults are stored properly.
• Sends and files correspondence as required.
• Stores and re-stocks items used in the packaging of evidence and day to day office use.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• General knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment; data entry skills, uses and operates a persona computer; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new applications; ability to type or operate a computer keyboard attention to detail, can use numbers and numbered systems with near-perfect accuracy; may perform dirty and rugged work. General knowledge of inventory control methods; thorough knowledge of the department policies and procedures governing the operation of Evidence Management Section; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; possession of adequate physical agility and endurance to perform duties; ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally; ability to work shifts and on-call schedules.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED with coursework in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field and minimal experience working in law enforcement, managing a warehouse, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

• This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, smelling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places and exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
