Forensic Scientist 3 (In-training option)

Salary: $3,987.00 - $7,761.00 Monthly

This position supports the mission of the agency by providing expert forensic analysis of toxicology evidence involved in criminal cases. This position provides the critical public safety link between the commission of crime and subsequent investigation and prosecution of the persons responsible.

This position has been designated as “in-training”; as such WSP will consider filling this position at the Forensic Scientist 3, Forensic Scientist 2, or Forensic Scientist 1 level. The salary range will depend upon at which level the position is filled at and the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Duties:

Primary Duties:
  • Conduct case analyses on evidence submitted to the toxicology lab.
  • Receive continued training on complex casework, as well as the operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
  • Provide court testimony in Washington and Oregon.
  • Quality assurance (including instrument maintenance, peer batch review, method development and validation, and proficiency testing).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a natural science, forensic science or closely related field. (Examples of related fields include but are not limited to: pharmacology, medical technology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, clinical chemistry, nuclear chemistry, genetics, cellular or molecular biology or toxicology.)
  • Chemistry coursework required. 20 semester or 30 quarter hours.
  • This position has been designated as “in-training”; as such WSP will consider filling this position at the Forensic Scientist 3, Forensic Scientist 2, or Forensic Scientist 1 level. The salary range will depend upon at which level the position is filled at and the qualifications of the successful candidate.
Desired Qualifications:
  • At least one year of technical experience in a forensic laboratory, performing analyses of biological evidence, and testifying as an expert witness in courts of law. This position has been designated as “in-training”; as such WSP will consider filling this position at the Forensic Scientist 3, Forensic Scientist 2, or Forensic Scientist 1 level. The salary range will depend upon at which level the position is filled at and the qualifications of the successful candidate.
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, or Toxicology course work is preferred.
**Special Requirements**
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment polygraph examination and background investigation.
  • Incumbent will need to have a valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Incumbent will need to be willing to travel statewide, and other states, for court testimony.
