Crime Scene Technician

Salary: $26.12 – $28.27 per hour

The purpose of this job within the organization is to thoroughly document crime scenes and identify, process, and collect physical evidence. Responsible for property room controls including the packaging, securing and chain of custody for all evidence collected and submitted for storage and processing.

Duties:

General Description
  • The purpose of this job within the organization is to thoroughly document crime scenes and identify, process, and collect physical evidence.
  • Responsible for property room controls including the packaging, securing and chain of custody for all evidence collected and submitted for storage and processing.
  • This job works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Essential Functions:
  • Replicate video evidence.
  • Complete supplemental reports for actions in each case.
  • Processing and storage of submitted evidence.
  • Completed submission documents for analysis of evidence. Hand deliver DNA/Print evidence to appropriate laboratories.
  • Generate disposition tracers, destruction orders, pull items for destruction.
  • Property room audits.
  • Courtroom testimony, DA's Office consultations, and autopsy attendance.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college education.
  • Minimum two (2) years related experience and/or training.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
  • Crime Scene Technician Certification is preferred, or the ability to obtain with one (1) year from date of hire.
