Property Room Supervisor

Salary: $43,305.60 Annually

Responsible for overseeing, coordinating and monitoring of the police property room and wrecker ordinance process. Supervise and perform the custodial activities of receiving and processing property and evidence into the Police Department Property Room by entering detailed records into a computerized property inventory database, sorting and storing all property and evidence in compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws, statutes and rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Police Department Property Room.

Essential Functions
  • Supervises, assigns, prioritizes and monitors the work activities of assigned personnel; provides training to new employees relative to the policies and procedures of receiving and processing property and evidence to and from the property room;
  • Conducts audits of property and evidence stored in property room to ensure all property, evidence, files, and records are stored and accounted for in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures;
  • Removes items, where ownership cannot be determined, from storage and prepares them for appropriate disposal in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures; notifies supervisor of issues and discrepancies;
  • Maintain custodial responsibility for all property to include narcotics, firearms and currency;
  • Monitor the daily inventory disposition under State and Federal laws;
  • Approve staff reports daily;
  • Manage case management system daily;
  • Maintain a monthly and fiscal year records for items in the custody of the property room;
  • Order supplies as needed for the property room as well as the substations stations;
  • Oversee the monthly auto auction;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Oversee the monthly auto auction and reconcile the proceeds;
  • Audit monthly and fiscal year logs;
  • Keep record of every vehicle tagged in the City of Lubbock;
  • Assist citizens and officers with questions about city ordinance;
  • Liaison with local wrecker companies;
  • Take payment for storage fees;
  • Check stickered vehicles 48 hours after being tagged to see if they are still illegally parked;
  • Perform related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.


  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent with four years of experience in planning, inventory control and auditing; requires one year of supervisory experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following.
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor convictions, an Open Arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and family violence convictions.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Physical exam required
Knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Supervisory practices, techniques, and procedures;
  • Analytical methods, procedures, and practices;
  • Fiscal accounting procedures, and practices;
  • Project planning and management procedures, practices and techniques.
Ability to:
  • Maintain accurate records;
  • Type 35 words a minute;
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with others;
  • Pass an extensive background investigation to receive security clearance;
  • Prepare and manage a budget;
  • Conduct, collect and analyze complex research data.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
  • Frequently stand and walk during a shift;
  • Frequently climb ladders, stairs and other inclined surfaces;
  • Push and pull objects;
  • Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
  • Frequently move entire body along a surface in a crawling motion;
  • Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left or forward while sitting or standing;
  • Place arms above, at or below shoulder height;
  • Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
