Police Property & Evidence Specialist

Salary: $13.56 - $20.34 Hourly

This is a civilian management position under limited supervision of the Special Operations Sergeant This position will be responsible for upkeep and inventory of all property/evidence turned in or owned by the Clovis Police Department. The position will be responsible for taking custody of property/evidence turned in by officers and the public. The property/evidence will be maintained in an orderly manner both in the evidence room and the warehouse. The position will be required to retrieve property/evidence for officers and the public following proper procedures. The technician will be responsible for upkeep of department. Normal duty hours will be from 0800 to 1700 hours Monday through Friday with a forty hour work week. Some overtime, schedule adjustment or weekend duty may be required.

Duties:

Typical Duties
  • Receives and retrieves evidence for officers and the public following proper procedures.
  • Maintains the evidence room and warehouse in an orderly manner.
  • Uses a computer to update and maintain records pertaining to the location of evidence.
  • Lift heavy objects such as televisions, boxes, etc.
  • Sending confiscated narcotics to the New Mexico State Crime Lab for analysis.
  • Monitor supplies required by officers for turning in evidence.
  • Marking evidence for destruction and obtaining court destruction orders.
  • Destruction of evidence that has been ordered or no longer needed for court.
  • Answer questions and provide information to public when needed.
  • Will be available to assist crime scene detective when needed.
  • Will be subpoenaed for court for testimony on evidence
  • Will provide in-service training for new officers

Requirements:

Requirements
  • Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and some college preferred.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States and be at least 21 years old at time of application.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting objects of at least 50 pounds waist high and 10 pounds over the head.
  • Should have knowledge of computers as well as software such as a database and a word processor.
  • Must obtain Property and Evidence Specialist certification within two years of employment.
