Forensic Scientist 5 - Toxicology

Salary: $6,691.00 - $8,782.00 Monthly

This recruitment will be used to fill a vacancy at the Seattle Toxicology Laboratory. In addition to the base salary, this position is eligible for 5% premium pay for positions located in King County.

The Forensic Scientist 5 position is crucial to maintaining the quality of forensic casework in their discipline through their direct involvement in training of staff, ensuring that quality measures are employed on the front line, and providing administrative and technical reviews on all casework. The incumbent in this position will evaluate staff, monitor and address performance issues of subordinates, and is responsible for ensuring all staff adhere to all relevant Agency, Bureau, and Division policies and procedures. In addition to supervising, the individual in this position will participate in short and long-term planning for the laboratory, assist with writing and updating technical, quality and administrative manuals, and will testify in court interpretations of casework and toxicology-related issues.

  • Supervision of Forensic Scientists

  • Casework, Case Interpretation, and Courtroom Testimony
  • Other duties as assigned by Lab Manager


Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a natural science, forensic science or closely related field including 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of chemistry coursework, and 5 semester hours or 8 quarter hours of physics coursework. Examples of related fields include: pharmacology, medical technology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, clinical chemistry, or toxicology.
  • Minimum of three years of forensic toxicology experience, to include performing analyses of biological evidence and testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
