Duties:

Technical:
  • Responsible for the preservation, screening/analysis and interpretation of latent print evidence collected in criminal cases for federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Must be familiar with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards and ANAB Supplemental Requirements.
  • Maintain chain of custody and case file records in an electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS). CBI is a paperless system.
  • Must demonstrate competency by successfully passing the agency’s training plan, competency test(s), and the established proficiency test(s).

Requirements:

FORENSIC SCIENTIST I
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, forensic science, or a closely-related natural science field AND a minimum of one year full-time forensic latent print experience in a crime laboratory during which a substantial percentage of duties include independent latent print analysis casework excluding trainings and/or internships. Latent print analysis casework must include processing and comparisons.
  • OR
  • Master’s or doctorate degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, forensic science or another closely related natural science field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree AND a minimum of one year full-time forensic latent print experience in a crime laboratory during which a substantial percentage of duties include independent latent print analysis casework excluding trainings and/or internships. Latent print analysis casework must include processing and comparisons.
  • A copy of your college or university transcripts must be provided at the time of application.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • International Association of Identification Latent Print Certification
  • Casework experience in an accredited crime laboratory
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Applicant must be willing to be fingerprinted, successfully pass a polygraph and extensive background investigation, drug screen and psychological exam. If you have used marijuana in the last twelve months, or any illegal drugs in the past five years, or have been convicted of a felony or have a history of criminal activity, you will be disqualified and will not be hired for this position.
  • This position may perform analysis on an item of evidence that contains hazardous materials or has been exposed to hazardous materials. Toxic chemicals are utilized throughout the laboratory during analyses.
  • A valid driver's license required. This position may be required to assist in another laboratory throughout the state and may be required to provide expert courtroom testimony statewide.
  • This position may be required to move/lift awkward or heavy items of evidence.
  • Effective September 20, 2021, employees will be required to attest to and verify that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, or, submit to twice-weekly serial testing. Upon hire, new employees will have three (3) business days to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination, or begin twice-weekly serial testing for COVID-19.
  • Testing will take place in-person/at home/TBD and will be considered paid work time. Note: Fully Vaccinated means two (2) weeks after a second dose in a two-dose series of the COVID-19 vaccine, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two (2) weeks after the single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine, as defined by the State of Colorado’s Public Health Order and guidance issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment.
