Senior Forensic Anthropologist

Tarrant County Medical Examiner, Fort Worth, Texas

Salary: $3,045.01 - $3,349.51 Biweekly

This position recovers remains, estimates biological profile parameters, evaluates trauma, and identifies bodies that are skeletal, decomposed, or burned. Maintains Human Identification files and tracks comparisons of unidentified bodies at TCME to missing person’s records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Discriminates between human and non-human remains.
  • Develops biological profiles of skeletal remains including sex, age at death, stature, and ancestry.
  • Identifies skeletal remains as an individual per se or excludes a particular set of remains as an individual.
  • Writes up description of ante-, peri-, and post-mortem trauma.
  • Writes up description of pathological conditions and anomalies.
  • Reconstructs an individual's facial physiognomy.
  • Makes ante-mortem/post-mortem radiographic comparisons.
  • Locates and excavates human remains.
  • Conducts trace analyses as may be assigned.
  • Conducts independent research in the areas of forensic anthropology and trace analyses.
  • Performs case entry into national databases.
  • Follows up with police agencies regarding matches.
  • Performs case file management, especially with regard to matches that have been excluded.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Chief Criminalist or the Chief Medical Examiner.


  • TO APPLY, must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology.
  • TO APPLY, must have Three (3) full-time years of related work experience.
  • Diplomate status of American Board of Forensic Anthropology is strongly encouraged.
  • Proficiency in Forensic Anthropology Skills.
