Forensic Scientist, Toxicology

Salary: $47,844.00 - $93,132.00 Annually

This position has been designated as "in-training"; as such, WSP will consider filling this position at the Forensic Scientist 3, Forensic Scientist 2, or Forensic Scientist 1 level. The salary range will depend upon which level the position is filled at and the qualifications of the successful candidate.
  • Forensic Scientist 3: $5,913 - $7,761 per month
  • Forensic Scientist 2: $4,627 - $6,063 per month
  • Forensic Scientist 1: $3,987 - $5,229 per month

This position supports the mission of the agency by providing expert forensic analysis of toxicology evidence involved in criminal cases. This position provides the critical public safety link between the commission of crime and subsequent investigation and prosecution of the persons responsible.

Duties:

Primary Duties:
  • Conduct case analyses on evidence submitted to the toxicology lab.
  • Receive continued training on complex casework, as well as the operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments.
  • Provide court testimony in Washington and Oregon.
  • Quality assurance (including instrument maintenance, peer batch review, method development and validation, and proficiency testing).

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a natural science, forensic science or closely related field. (Examples of related fields include but are not limited to: pharmacology, medical technology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, clinical chemistry, nuclear chemistry, genetics, cellular or molecular biology or toxicology.)
  • At least one year of technical experience in a forensic laboratory, performing analyses of biological evidence, and testifying as an expert witness in courts of law.
  • Chemistry coursework required. 20 semester or 30 quarter hours.
Our ideal candidate also has:
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, or Toxicology course work.
**Special Requirements**
  • The person selected for this position will need to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to starting employment, and be willing and able to travel statewide, and to other states, for court testimony.
