The Parker Police Department offers an on-going Student Internship Program in cooperation with area colleges and universities providing undergraduate students, who are considering police work as a career, a structured program, which will present a practical look at a local law enforcement agency. The program is designed to afford college students, who are enrolled in programs which would benefit from a law enforcement internship, an opportunity to observe and, in some instances, participate in the daily functions of the Parker Police Department.

In addition to a Polygraph Examination, drug screening and background investigation, which must be completed prior to approval of the internship, the following requirements must be met for consideration for a student internship:
  • Approval by the student's college or university;
  • Mutual agreement for the student to work a minimum number of hours per week. No internship will exceed forty (40) hours per week; however, if necessary, the affected commander may approve fewer than twenty hours per week;
  • Mutual agreement upon the length of the internship between the Administration Commander and the educational institution;
  • The successful completion of the internship must be for the receipt of college credit;
  • The work performed must be beneficial to both the student and the Parker Police Department; and
  • The student must be at junior or senior level.
  • Ability to communicate well, think well, and respond quickly.
  • Ability to maintain good rapport with victims, patrol officers, outside agencies, and the public.
