Candidate should be pursuing a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Computer Forensics or Forensic Science and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Candidates with experience in either Analytical Chemistry or Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) or other laboratory experience are preferred.

  • Independent work on project agreed upon with sponsoring institution and DPS.
  • Observing and, when feasible, assisting Forensic Scientists in routine tasks.
  • Assisting the laboratory with special projects including compiling and interpreting statistical data.
  • Assisting the Evidence Technicians in routine tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Interns must be in or have completed their Junior Year of College by the time the internship starts.
  • None required.
Intern Responsibilities
  • Interns should be employable in the near future and be a competitive candidate.
  • Interns must be able to meet the eligibility requirements for Forensic Scientist when they graduate.
  • If the internship is being completed as part of a course or degree requirement, the passing criteria and expectations should be provided along with the application.
  • Interns must maintain a consistent schedule and be available 20-40 hours per week.
  • Interns must be able to pass a background check.
  • A program of study should be developed with the laboratory before the internship starts.
  • Interns should be immunized against hepatitis B at their own expense. The immunization requirement may be dropped provided a waiver is signed.
