Duties:

  • Responsible technical work which involves locating, collecting, preserving, reporting, filing and delivering crime scene evidence.
  • Other major duties involve presenting evidence and expert knowledge in court; and related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • High School graduation or G.E.D. Equivalency Diploma issued by a State Department of Education.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • EITHER:
    • One (1) year of experience as a Laboratory Technician I or Laboratory Technician II with the New Orleans Police Department in the Scientific Investigation Division.
    • OR: One (1) year of full-time experience in crime scene investigation.
    • OR: Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least twelve (12) credit hours in Criminal Justice, Chemistry, Biology, Forensic Science, or a closely related scientific field. Official transcripts must be presented to the New Orleans Civil Service Department within two (2) weeks of application.
