Salary: $16.04 Per Hour

Part time position

Under the general direction of the Investigations Division Sergeant, secures, stores and disposes of evidence and property according to state and federal law and department procedures. Releases property to the rightful owners. Responds to crime scenes to process and collect evidence.

  • Receives, sorts and secures all property delivered to the evidence lockers. Responsible for verifying evidence reports against property to ensure accuracy
  • Accountable for security and integrity of evidence room. Responsible for preserving the critical chain of evidence. Testifies in court when subpoenaed.
  • Determines appropriate and lawful disposition of property. Releases property to officers, property owners, the courts and/or other agencies.
  • Releases property for sale at public auction. Maintains an accurate accounting of all property transfers and releases.
  • Corresponds with officers and the general public regarding disposition of property. Matches stolen and lost property reports with property inventory.
  • Researches found property and matches with lost property. Determines if property was lost or stolen.
  • Assists with public auctions by moving items to auction site and accounting for auction receipts.
  • Responds to crime scenes to process and collect evidence.
  • Responsible for the technical testing of evidence in which certification has been given.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


  • Prior law-enforcement experience, or a degree in a field associated with this position, is preferred but not required.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
  • Must possess a valid driver license. A Utah driver license must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules of evidence, court procedures, and testimony rules.
  • Thorough knowledge of the St. George Police Department rules and regulations, especially those dealing with evidence handling and control.
  • Skilled in work management and the ability to carry out a variety of procedures as developed through training and experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, department heads, employees, officials and employees of other jurisdictions, and the general public.
  • Ability to categorize, store, locate, and recovery large quantities of items (inventory management).
  • Ability to manage electronic data including the use of Spillman systems, excel, word, and other software.
