  • Respond to crime scenes or assignments promptly.
  • Gather facts regarding investigations through interviews of witnesses, patrol officers and investigators.
  • Use proper techniques to collect, maintain and package items of physical evidence for submission to laboratories and court.
  • Prepares reports that are complete, clear and concise with an accurate description of the actions taken.
  • Coordinate the securing of crime scenes to ensure that further investigations are not compromised.
  • Ability to process for latent prints utilizing basic and advanced techniques of latent print collection and recovery.
  • Classify latent fingerprints.
  • Respond to court promptly and present oral testimony clearly, truthfully and accurately as to the facts of the case being prosecuted.
  • Assist with Departmental events.
  • Ability to be on-call and respond to scenes within one hour of notification.
  • Ability to photograph and document crime scene utilizing DSLR cameras, video, and other electronic media.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in programs involving investigative and social relations skills, such as Criminology, Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, one of the Social Sciences or related fields
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Forensic Investigator or similar position
  • Demonstrate the ability to process crime scenes, prepare accurate and detailed reports.
  • Testify accurately and professionally in court proceedings.
  • Pass background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • International Association for Identification Certification
  • 1 year experience in the following realms:
    • Application of investigative work
    • Knowledge of and experience with methods and techniques of laboratory analysis and research work
    • Knowledge of forensic photography and its methodology in capturing images of victims, suspects, and evidence
    • Knowledge of City, County, State, and Federal laws and court decisions that affect the collection, preservation, testing, and storage of evidence
    • Knowledge of courtroom procedures regarding testimony, scheduling, and attorney conferencing
    • Preparation of investigative reports
Licenses or Certifications:
  • International Association for Identification (IAI) Certification
