Property and Evidence Technician

Evans Police Department, Evans, Colorado

Salary: $21.01-$30.48 per hour

Performs complex technical, clerical and security work in the Property and Evidence Room. The Technician is responsible for the security of the Property and Evidence area and contents.

Duties:

Specific job functions will depend on the needs of the division day-to-day.
  • Know, adhere to, and support the Mission Statements, Goals, Values and Priorities of the City of Evans, the Evans Police Department, the Evans City Council, the Evans City Manager and the Evans Chief of Police;
  • Maintain the integrity and ethical standards of the City of Evans and the Evans Police Department.
  • Review and be familiar with the current practices for the efficient, effective, and secure handling of property turned in to the custody of the Property and Evidence unit;
  • Audit the existing content in the Property and secured storage area and implement the current system of recording, cataloging, and securely storing items of property and evidence;
  • Ensure each item of property and evidence is packaged according to department procedure, stored pursuant to protocols of evidence handling, and maintained in a strict chain-of-custody;
  • Maintain a record of items according to type, age, and owner.
  • Job may include assisting with internal and external customers;
  • Testifying in court proceedings and
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older; possess a high school diploma or equivalent; possession of CO driver’s license or equivalent driver’s license from another state;
  • Four years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience and/or experience in the property/evidence field; municipal experience preferred;
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred and equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered;
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, database management, spreadsheet applications and electronic mail;
  • Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences;
  • Knowledge of the proper packaging, identification markings, sealing, handling, and storage of property and evidence;
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and follow complex statutes, ordinances, regulations, standards, and guidelines;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds from floor to waist level and those weighing up to 25 pounds to shoulder height.

  • The City of Evans conducts pre-employment physical exams, drug testing, and background investigations as a condition of employment.
