  • Perform a variety of laboratory tests and related analyses to assist in crime detection; collect, analyze and compare evidence for forensic application.
  • Identify physiological fluids including blood and semen and determine appropriate species; type of fluids in hematological groups.
  • Make microscopic comparisons of variations in ballistics and tool marks.
  • Perform analysis of drugs, poisons, fillers and related materials.
  • May serve as an expert witness in court; testify as to findings and conclusions.


  • Basic principles and practices of criminal investigations, identification and analysis, pertinent Federal, State and local laws, code and regulations pertaining to evidence, arrest and prosecution of criminals, safe work practices and occupational hazards of the job, methods, and practices of handwriting comparison, use and care for a variety of laboratory equipment.
  • Experience: No directly related experience required.
  • Training: Equivalent to a Bachelors's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Chemistry, Biology or a related field.
