Salary: $26,929.00 - $41,786.00 per year

Duties:

  • The main purpose of this position is to process crime evidence and test fires for entry into the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NBIN) database.
  • Other duties include daily usage of the Laboratory Information System, assistance with inventory and other quality control measures and communication with outside agency representatives in reference to NIBIN entries and case status.

Requirements:

Education:
  • Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university including three courses in chemistry or biology.
Experience:
  • Two years of experience as a Laboratory Assistant or Technician.
Notes:
  • Candidates may substitute additional experience in a laboratory applying chemical or biological techniques at a rate of one year of experience for each 30 credit hours of the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate Arts degree or higher level degree in life or forensic sciences from an accredited college or university for the required education or the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Medical Laboratory or Histopathology classifications or Medical Laboratory specialty codes in the Laboratory Science field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with data acquisition into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN)
  • Experience in handling and shooting firearms
  • Experience in cleaning and maintaining a laboratory
